Top 5 Cryptocurrency Apps on Android in South Africa: Q2 2024

The second quarter of 2024 saw notable activity among the top cryptocurrency apps on the Android platform in South Africa. Based on data from Sensor Tower, here's how the top five apps performed in terms of weekly downloads, revenue, and active users.

Cryptomania —Trading Simulator experienced fluctuations in weekly downloads, starting strong with around 28K in early April and gradually declining to approximately 17.5K by the end of June. Weekly revenue showed a similar pattern, peaking at $162 in early May and ending the quarter at $121. Active users remained relatively stable throughout the quarter, averaging around 58K to 69K.

Luno: Buy Bitcoin & Crypto saw a steady decline in weekly downloads, from about 14K in early April to just under 9K by the end of June. Active users showed minor fluctuations, ranging from 48K to 60K throughout the quarter.

Binance: Buy Bitcoin & Crypto had a notable increase in weekly downloads, especially in June, peaking at nearly 13.7K. Active users also saw a rise, starting at around 40K in April and reaching approximately 50K by the end of June.

VALR Crypto Exchange showed a varied trend in weekly downloads, with a significant spike in early May at 7.3K before stabilizing around 2.7K by the end of June. Active users saw a peak in early May at around 35K and ended the quarter at approximately 29K.

Crypto.com Exchange had a mixed quarter, with weekly downloads peaking at nearly 7K in mid-May before dropping to negligible numbers by the end of the month. Active users increased from about 1.6K in early April to over 10K in mid-May, but then decreased to around 4.5K by the end of June.
